Islamabad June 23, 2008: The Pakistan Peoples Party is dismayed and disappointed over the verdict today by Lahore High Court disqualifying Mian Nawaz Sharif from contesting bye election.

In a statement today spokesperson of the Party former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that it was the considered view of the Party and the federal government that petitions against Mian Nawaz Sharif were not maintainable before the Lahore High Court.

He said that the deputy attorney general representing the federal government had also taken this position of non-maintainability of petition against Mian Nawaz Sharif before the honorable Lahore High Court. However, the LHC decided otherwise, he said.

The spokesperson said that the PML-N is a coalition partner with the PPP in the federal government. The PPP is also a coalition partner with PML-N in the provincial government of Punjab.

The Pakistan Peoples Party is concerned and disappointed over the verdict.
