Petition filed against DRO, DPO Tharparker and others

KARACHI, January 21: Five candidates of the Pakistan Peoples Party from Tharparker district have filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court seeking action against District Returning Officer, District Police Officer, District Nazim for violation the constitution, law and electoral laws and playing complete partial role in the election process.

The petition was filed by PPP candidate Dr Dost Mohammad Rahimoon, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Imam Ali Samejo, Engr. Pesumal Ukrani and Dr Khatumal Jeevan today in Sindh High Court Circuit Branch.

The petitioners pointed out the role of District Returning Officer Zaheeruddin Jatt of Tharparker district, who happens to be the Additional District & Sessions Judge and remained a close associate of Arbab Ghulam Rahim enjoying his favours when the later was Chief Minister in Sindh. Over 50 PPP workers are in judicial lock-ups of Tharparker district but they have been denied legal bails through different pretexts showing an open bias.

The petitioners have sought urgent transfer of the partisan DRO and his replacement with an honest and impartial DRO to conduct the election process in Tharparker.

The PPP candidates have also sought action and transfer of DPO Tharparker Sajid Ali Shah, who is posted in Tharparker since last eight years and given shoulder promotions by Arbab Ghulam Rahim.

The two officials got registered several FIRs against thousands of PPP workers, got more than 50 workers arrested through private militia and later handed over to police, which subjected them to inhuman torture.

The petitioners submitted copies of several complaints sent to the Chief Election Commissioner, Provincial Election Commissioner but no action was taken on their part so far.
