KARACHI, January 21: Five
candidates of the Pakistan
Peoples Party from
Tharparker district have
filed a constitutional
petition in the Sindh High
Court seeking action against
District Returning Officer,
District Police Officer,
District Nazim for violation
the constitution, law and
electoral laws and playing
complete partial role in the
election process.
The petition was filed by
PPP candidate Dr Dost
Mohammad Rahimoon, Sharjeel
Inam Memon, Imam Ali Samejo,
Engr. Pesumal Ukrani and Dr
Khatumal Jeevan today in
Sindh High Court Circuit
Branch.
The petitioners pointed out
the role of District
Returning Officer
Zaheeruddin Jatt of
Tharparker district, who
happens to be the Additional
District & Sessions Judge
and remained a close
associate of Arbab Ghulam
Rahim enjoying his favours
when the later was Chief
Minister in Sindh. Over 50
PPP workers are in judicial
lock-ups of Tharparker
district but they have been
denied legal bails through
different pretexts showing
an open bias.
The petitioners have sought
urgent transfer of the
partisan DRO and his
replacement with an honest
and impartial DRO to conduct
the election process in
Tharparker.
The PPP candidates have also
sought action and transfer
of DPO Tharparker Sajid Ali
Shah, who is posted in
Tharparker since last eight
years and given shoulder
promotions by Arbab Ghulam
Rahim.
The two officials got
registered several FIRs
against thousands of PPP
workers, got more than 50
workers arrested through
private militia and later
handed over to police, which
subjected them to inhuman
torture.
The petitioners submitted
copies of several complaints
sent to the Chief Election
Commissioner, Provincial
Election Commissioner but no
action was taken on their
part so far.
